Shouldn’t medium quality be 720p (1280x720) and Insane 1080p (1920x1080)?

This is typical 16:10 monitor resolution, so it’s ok.

:frowning:

Yeah, but 720p/1080p are standardised resolutions for HD videos

Oh, I love runs with a commentary! I’m really looking forward to seeing this run, let us know when the run is available for download

Commentaries are always awesome. Especially airboat commentaries.

I play on a 16:10 monitor. 1280x720 (aka 720p) and 1920x1080 (aka 1080p) are 16:9, which is the format most TVs use. To go from 16:10 to 16:9, I would either have to squash the video or scale it down and have black bars on the left and right side. I would not spend the 6 hours it took to capture the footage again.

Additionally, why would you not want a higher resolution? 1200p and 800p are better and supported by computer monitors. Also, ‘p’ just stands for progressive and doesnt really make much sense in the context of us discussing computer captured videos.

Awesome! Would it be okay for us to put this on the Sourceruns channel on Youtube?

Thats fine. Also, I realized this thread is in the “third party” section of the forum. We dont have a first party section or should we label this as “Other first and third party Source mods”?

“Other official Source games”

TORRENTS ARE UP!!!

Could anyone in this forum download them and start seeding? Seeding that Insane quality video is going to be insane, because it’ll take forever for the first person to download it. I will make these more ‘public’ when I write up a description that I want to send to gaming websites. For now, don’t announce this to everyone, but if you could help by getting people to seed, I’d appreciate it. Thank you!

Would you mind if I uploaded the low quality version on dropbox?

It would just let people get it quicker.

For right now, I just want the torrents to get seeds. Using the dropbox, people could avoid the torrent altogether. I need to release it publicly, but I havent done that yet.

Will be seeding all versions except the insane-version!

Just watched the low-res version. IN-FUCKING-SANE! I have the feeling that you spend more time in those elevators that you do on actually running the maps. I didn’t understand what was going on all the time, I hope the commentary will clear some things out - but it’s also so damn fast that you can’t keep up. You have earned your title as ‘Portal Master’! Awesome run, great job! :o

I love the I’m still alive remix btw  Great speedrun overall, I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait (!) to get my hands on a version that has the commentary.

Good news ! Will download & seed all the qualities

HD, XviD, 60 fps? You didn’t search very well to come up with those.
The insane quality won’t play on any computer, because without hardware acceleration (which you can’t have with XviD), it’s impossible, I won’t mention the 60fps.
Also screens are in 16/9 now, 16/10 isn’t even sold anymore.
Plus 30k bitrate and virtualdubmod.
Youtube will hopefully solve these problems if you allow the upload.

Downloading all versions to my home server, will seed for a long time.

Also screens are in 16/9 now, 16/10 isn't even sold anymore.
I also mentioned this :P

I can upload it to my mirror too (like I did with the EP1 run)

I searched for a few hours. I came up with the best and only way I could capture the footage using the ‘startmovie NAME avi’ command. No one responded to me on how to get extra encoders into the encoder options window. Xvid gave fantastic quality and decent compression. I’ve run out of hard drive space to capture everything using lossless codecs.

I have no idea what you are talking about here. Plays totally fine on my computer. I can actually play it twice simultaneously, one on my monitor, and one on my 46" LED TV with the same computer. Additionally, the bit rate of the master file (which is 8.5 GB) is at 75,000kbps (75Mbps). That also plays fine.

Moreover, 60fps is so much more pleasing to the eye to watch than 30fps. It basically looks like you are playing the game. No one plays a game at 30fps. So, I captured it with the intension of it looking like a game. Additionally, PS3 plays games at 1080p 60fps. Its fairly standard to use 60fps for non-filmed based video playback.

Also, all 30" screens are in 16:10 aspect ratio. It isn’t common place for TVs, but this video is meant to be played on a computer.

I don’t know what you are complaining about. It worked, didn’t it? Don’t fucking fix it if it isn’t broken.

Unfortunately, YouTube won’t look the greatest. I will still be uploading it there. I may use another video hosting service also (like Dailymotion.com). I don’t know if they would do a better job or not.

If you had input in the matter, you should have replied to the video quality test that I had a 2 pages ago.

I’m uploading to YouTube at the moment. I had to stop seeding the torrents for now until that completes. Please bear with me. I hope there are enough seeds to keep it going.

I’ve been seeding as best I can, but I only have .8mb (100kB) up. My ratios so far are 1.9, 1.6, 0.7 and 0.2. Ill continue seeding through the night though.

Edit: I just watched the run. Let’s do the boring, technical part first:

Insane quality was extremely crisp. Quality-wise it looked pretty much like I was in-game watching demos. And like you said, the 60fps really are necessary. At least in a run like this with very high ABH speeds and really quick turning in between portals. Just one thing - where is the commentary? I take it it’s not “built-in”, so will you release it on a separate mp3? If so, when?

The run itself:

To sum it up in 1 word: Mindblowing. I don’t get half the stuff you do, but the half I do get is just way more awesome than anything else I’ve ever seen portal-wise. The other half, the one that I don’t really get, I realize I don’t get because it’s simply *too *awesome. Seriously. You really are the Portal Master.

Spoiler alert!
I almost shed a tear at the end. It was beautiful. At first I was amazed that you made it into the cake room. Then I found it even cooler that you were able to play around in there, and even put the companion cube on top of the cake. However it never once crossed my mind that even this was just a build-up. In the very end when I saw that metal claw hit the cube, not able to kill the light, I just… Words cannot even describe it. And then on top of that - the credits. Seriously. You nailed it. (Btw, the ASCII is kinda messed up, I guess due to the resolution, but I guess there’s noting you could do about that?)
Spoiler alert!

I’m sorry. I realize how cheesy all of this probably sounds. It’s like I’m some weird fanboy wanting to get your attention or something. But really…

This run is beautiful.

Good, because I need to finish downloading it :stuck_out_tongue:
