Original HL2 Engine?

So maybe I missed something when skimming through the wiki but where, and what do people use to install the original game version for speed runs? I’m wanting to practice some of core methods but it’s just like trying to pull teeth when trying on steampipe.

Found this Reddit post I’d been trying to go by, but I can’t even get a complete install with these files…

What do you guys end up doing to get the original version?

There’s a Old Engine unpack for SDK Base 2006 (build 4044) that you can download from the Source Unpack thread.

The Source Pause Tool found on github doesn’t work with this build, so here’s a version that does work with said build if you want it:
