eXeC, the other day you mentioned you got 12,1 on IRC. I wasn’t around to respond at the time, and I missed you by 9 minutes in the evening apparently. I was just wondering if you thought the run was good enough to move on with, or if you’re trying to get an even better time? If not, then could you upload demo and save please? 8)
I’m trying to get at least 10.x, but I will be busy with the video I’m making for next 2 days, so I will not run the segment for now, sorry.
It’s funny to see you estimating times, and how random the Source engine seems to be for speedrunning.
When I run Goldsource, It might be 10,2 that I wanna improve to 10,0 :>
It’s all because of ABH. In 3 segments (01_02, 02_05 and 02_06) we had anticipated a wallclimb would be necessary, but then we noticed we can just abh into some random object and do it in way less time. In 01_01, 02_01 and 05_05 we were able to take huge shortcuts thanks to ABH.
Most of these shortcuts were impossible to know if they were actually doable until we sat down and played them hundreds of times. With ABH you basically just have to wait until you get that perfect one - there’s really no controlling it. This makes it really hard to estimate times.
Yes, I see. And I also remember your “ABH y u so random” clip, lol :>
However, it would be so awesome if in-game scripts would still work in Source. That way you would have a script working with the frames of the game, rather than in random milliseconds ignoring the phase of the game frames.
It also seems like AHK can have different sleep on different PCs
http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/Sleep.htm#ShorterSleep
“Delay is typically rounded up to the nearest multiple of 10 or 15.6 milliseconds”
If sleep, 1 is real 10ms, thats only 100 inputs/sec. And only 1/3 af the games 300fps.
And sleep, 0/-1 does register as a constant press?
Maybe you should try a bunnyhop.exe the other guy talked about. Thats also an external program, so I wouldnt classify it more cheating than AHK.
Well, after such a long time, I’m proud to present my 11,0s 5th segment that we were stuck for about 8 months now. I would really like to move on with this, as you know how hard it is to get a boost, and then survive. I tried my best on this one.
You can find the .dem and the .sav in the Dropbox folder.
And now, I present you the segment in YouTube:
Enjoy, co-runners.
Very nice! One more insane ABH segment to go! 8)
I tagged the last segment, because… I dunno. And it’s funny, there’s two potential endings:
Dying, which is the faster way (73.5s), but people might complain about an unfair ending.
Living, which is 1s slower (74.5s), but at least you won’t get any complaints. And you can get a Combine Flash-Bot that trolls the credits for you ;D
I still say we die. It’s all about finishing the game, so dying after we’ve finished shouldn’t matter.
Die. As long as the credits will roll by, I consider it finished.
Well, I liked the ‘staying alive’ demo better, so my opinion is to stay alive. That scanner credit thing is pretty hilarious. And I know it can be done faster than dieing. Also, there might be some tiny slopes on which you could land without stopping and then survive.
Alright then, you guys be the judge. In the DB folder I put both the dying and living demos, to the best as I could, for you guys to decide.
Dying is still fastest, as it’s a straight drop down.
Yup. Speedruns are about finishing the game as quickly as possible. Falling straight down is the fastest way to finish the game.
I think I can do this segment a little bit faster. I’ll try it when I get home.
71,7
edit: 71.5, died
edit2: managed to survive a long fall on the outside of the elevator through some random bug(?) (didn’t lose a single hp). Doubt I’ll be a be able to replicate it though.
71,4
Edit: 71,0

When you get on the elevator platform (the window), do some hops to keep your speed (if its faster than crawling, of course) and slowly try turning around while hopping to get down faster. While doing that you can press the button in the elevator. I’m not sure if it’s possible, though. I need to get a closer look at this thing.
By the way, 71 seconds sounds impressive. Nice work on this seg. At this rate we will finish the seg in no time.
I have some finishes where I bunnyjump through the window, but it saves at best like a tenth of a second. Also, it will often fuck up really good runs as you’ll exit the window with a jump, so you’ll have to wait longer until you land on the floor of the elevator.
You can’t press the button to the elevator while doing that. If you press the button like 0.5 seconds too early the door will close before you get through and you’ll get stuck. Many runs have gotten fucked up there as well
I’m pretty much done with this segment. If someone manages to beat it I might give it another shot, but for now I feel it’s as good as I can get it.
Well, I won’t do this seg, unless no one tries to get it anymore. So, Gocnak, if you want to get to the run, beat igge’s time
Anyone still playing this? 8)
I don’t think I can beat that haha. Good job igge.
I’ll stick to Precursor and HL2.
