What happened to the config files from coolkid and people? does anyone have the cfg’s?

They’re still on dropbox as far as I can see

Something like this?

i meant the cfg with the weapon binds, like with ‘bind v weapon_shotgun’

Here are mine. Not too different from each other and way out of date, but should suit your needs.

So, I downloaded NGHL. I was tweaking the settings a bit to my liking, and I changed the video options. I don’t remember exactly what I changed it to, but when I launch the game, it comes up with:

“The specified video mode is not supported. The game will now run in software mode.”

I hit OK, but after I do, nothing happens for a second, then the message appears again. Is there a way I can change back the original settings in the game’s files or something?

Some settings can be changed using console commands. For all other settings check HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Valve/Half-Life/Settings in your Windows Registry (I don’t recommend playing with them or deleting them completely).

And what do I do to change the settings? Sorry, I’m not very experienced with this side of Windows :-X

If you want to change resolution, change EngineModeH to X and EngineModeW to Y (where X is height and Y is width) you can also try -width and -height launch options.

If you mean how do you actually edit the options, rather than what to edit, open Start Menu / Screen, search “regedit” - from there you can do a Ctrl-F search for the relevant key - make sure not to touch any other settings though or you could badly break something.

Recognizing the problem. Launch options should be enough. Example:
Target: D:\Games\Half-Life\hl.exe -gl -32bpp -window -w 1280 -h 720 -freq 120 -console

Hey guys, I’m very new, I’ve been following HL1 runs since Half-Life in 30 minutes, and finally decided to join the fun. My question for someone is what exactly are the guidelines to running? I don’t mean tutorials, but what is and isn’t allowed? I am aware that this is quite disputed at the moment, I skimmed through the thread about regulating runs, but as a newcomer its very intimidating to run when I cant tell if what I am doing is illegal or not. I have no idea what scripts, game versions, or anything of the like is legal, and I don’t want to get too used to running one way only to find out I can’t run that way. If it makes things easier to explain for someone, I want to run SS Hard difficulty, but I’m confused as to whether scripts are allowed (ie http://wiki.sourceruns.org/wiki/Half-Life_Scripts , which is what I’ve been practicing with). It is to my understanding that the wiki is outdated, so maybe someone can direct me to something that is considered up-to-date in terms of scripts, provided that they are allowed of course.

You can run with scripts, but it will fall into the scripted category.

As far as I know it isn’t that strict so you can use high fps (250), triggerdelaying and other complex scripts, most of the stuff that has been discussed in those threads do not apply in scripted category.

In case you decide to run scriptless, here are the current rules and a “Getting started” guide.

If you want to submit your run to the speedrun.com leaderboards then you aren’t allowed to use any scripts/macros(except for demo recording) at all. If you aren’t going to submit your run to the leaderboards you are free to play the game however you want.

Before I make a new thread and ask, i found a bug and google search and asking some other runners I talk to has yielded know help. In Gonarch’s lair, the gonarch will essentially moonwalk at his waypoints rather than stopping, rendering him immune to damage for like 20 seconds at a time. As you can imagine this is very frustrating. Is there any cause for this? or fix?

This happens when you move before Gonarch reaches her first destination. Try to not move and stand still until you shoot her when she first stops.

Thanks so much! That is a huge time saver haha.
