Half Life 2 Old Engine Rerun

Well, after some testing I can confirm that it is possible to skip waiting for the train at the start if you clip early enough to get to the platform before the train covers it up. I didn’t bother recording demos, but I suppose everyone here knows what I mean anyway.

Potential coast_03 gap jump

Can someone pm me the old engine?

Done.

Could someone also PM me the download for old engine?

Awesome! PM me your address and I’ll send you your beer.

I’m damn excited about this run now!

What about you send him some cryptocoins so he can buy the drink of his choice? That way there’s no shipping cost and you don’t have to exchange home addresses! :stuck_out_tongue:

Is there any way to get Steam to see that Half Life 2 is running? I’d quite like to have the in-game overlay for chat and screenshots and such, as well as to be able to track play time. :stuck_out_tongue: I tried using revEmu, and it actually yields one less error at startup, but it doesn’t seem to interact with Steam properly, even though I turned off the steamclient.dll emulation which isn’t meant to work with older games (though all that did was dumped a bunch of empty steam-related files in my HL2 directory). I suppose Steam is just too new for such an old version of HL2 now, in which case I guess I don’t care that much, although if there’s a way to get it working that’s great…

Alternatively is it possible to just not use a Steam emulator at all? Or does that yield a multitude of other problems? EDIT: Yes, it does. The game fails to start lol

You probably don’t want an old copy of to come up on Steam, unless you run it as a mod

Here are some coast_05 theory launches

Seems like if we’re going to do a launch in Coast, it’ll be either this one or exec’s since they both take SMG nades, so it’s important to know which one saves more time

Can someone tell me the build number we’re using for this run? I don’t know if I can find it myself or if I’d need someone from here to tell me where to get it.

I found a couple of launch glitches on YouTube which are probably useless though they look pretty cool.

Also I forgot the torrent link but could someone make sure Moo’s above post doesn’t go unnoticed? :stuck_out_tongue:

You could also get two smg nades going into coast. The best options I can see to grab smg nades are

  1. the supply crate in the container towards the end of boatless
  2. the nade in town_02
  3. the supply crate in town_04
  4. the nade near the white minivan in town_05(this doesn’t always appear, it’s probably dependent on your ammo, you won’t get it if you already have an smg nade)
  5. the nade in the small house in coast_01

You can’t get the second nade from a supply crate though. Not sure how this will work with losing weapons in canals_11. Something worth looking at is if you can somehow have more speed going into coast_03/coast_05 and thus not needing the nade at all for the launch.

Another map in coast that’s worth looking at is coast_09. I’m not really familiar with how flying works but can’t you just fly over the water and skip going all the way around the map? I imagine it’s really hard but I don’t see why you couldn’t do it.

Using the post is more fun!

But if Elgu is privacy conscious, I can work some digital payment out. I don’t really have any desire to work out how to use crypto-currencies, but meh. Could probably use paypal or something.

This is definitely something to look into. The hardest part about doing this fly is going to be staying at ~1000 UPS the whole time without going too fast and dropping the object. If you’re not going at near top speed the whole time, there’s not much reason to fly, because it would most likely end up being slower anyway.

I’ve already done some coast05 jumps yesterday, but decided not to post them here… oh well

1st and the last methods will work the best

Did you try using the RL first?

Also, dat FoV 2pr04m3 m8.

Well it does take a while; I just set up Litecoin, and it takes more than a day to do the initial setup. ::slight_smile:

To follow up on the clip out of the train on trainstation_01: It works, but as far as I can tell it leads to nowhere.

This image explains the situation, once you’re up on top of the train or clipped in the train you have a big clipbrush to your right stopping you from getting off.

I think if there’s a way to clip on the other side it could be our way out of there, I’ll keep trying.

(QUICK THOUGHT: Maybe there’s some way we can clip oob after getting on top of the train; I know there’s a few props around. But I wouldn’t know which ones to use or where to use them.)

Moo, I already managed to clip out of the train; you just have to do it quickly and then bunnyhop towards the part where you would get off.

It’s also possible to optimise the speed gain by doing several hops on the sloped part of the train, then bunny hopping on the floating sign to gain a little more speed, before doing more hops on the staircase and launching forwards. You could then prop boost over the fence using the Chinese food carton thing and keep a hold of it for teleporting.
