Sighs. Can’t we re create demo’s by making the demo files ourselves then just play them through on the regular game.Part of why scripts were banned was becasue people were able of creating massive scripts full of TAS movements. Maybe we could do a similar thing with scripts except in real time. That would solve our problem of being able to record demo’s but on the other hand… Would SDA like it?

I’d say that torrents of a old version is our best deal. It’s a shame that it has come to this, but we had no other choice…Torrent #1: Seems to work, but some people are complaining about not being able to see the weapons.Torrent #2: People claim that it works but the sound isn’t synced.Copy/Paste link: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4612289/[PC-Non-Steam]Half-life_Source[DIGITALZONE]Torrent #3: I don’t know if this works or what to do with it.Torrent #4: One commentator claims that it contains a virus. Anothers claims that it works but the installation-language is russian, the game itself is in english except for the HEV-suit.Torrent #5: Some comments claims that the install doesn’t work. One commentator claims that it contains a virus/Trojan. It seems that this version needs Vengeance’s HL2 or Steam-version as well. Not sure how or IF this works, the only Vengeance version of HL2 that i could find was this one (1 seeder). It should be possible to rip the needed files from Torrent #1 (or some torrent-version that actually works) and make our own version of HLS - just like we did with both HL2 as well as with Portal. But I don’t know what files are needed or what to do with them. Was it doxliy who did that work possibly? Has DemonStrate done this as well?..

Thanks for getting those links, I’ll work with Torrent 1 and see if we can use this to mod HLS on steam.Edit: I downloaded the only one I could get to download (torrent 2), the demo playback was a success, BUT it saves the demos in a weird directory, for me it was C:\Users\CooL\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Half Life 2\hl1. Even better, I can play the demo in Half-Life: Source on steam, which means we just have to find a way to fix the demo recorder for HLS. As for now, at least we can use this torrent until we can fix this ourselves. Edit 2: Oh by the way.http://www.filefront.com/15760707/testnum2.dem

I’m just started downloading Torrent #2, I will install it tomorrow.I don’t know if the problem is in the recording or in the playback since HLS crashes when I try to play demos from our old HLS-runs (which USED to work fine). Perhaps the Torrent-HLS-version can play them but this isn’t a big deal though.I didn’t really notice any delay/off-sync on the sound, you haven’t noticed this have you? Perhaps playing demos in Steam-HLS fixes that problem (IF it ever existed)? Anyway, seems like the Torrent-HLS is a pretty good fix for us…

I didn’t notice any delay in sound, it could just be that 1 person who had that problem. As for recording the demos in Steam-HLS and playing them in Torrent-HLS, no, the torrent crashes, so it must be a recording issue, but I’m also not sure why your old demos aren’t working, maybe your files got corrupt? I actually had an old demo from when you guys were working on HLSDQ that Randomengy had uploaded to his site, and when I played it back, it worked fine, this was after shit started to not work.Edit: Oh btw typical, you asked for a demo of VOB, well here it is :stuck_out_tongue:http://www.filefront.com/15761637/vob.dem

I’m so… DRunk. Will check it oyt tomrorrow.

You mentioned the weird demo-directory for the torrent-HLS but for me they are saved quite logically in the same folder that I installed them in: C:\Program\Half Life 2\hl1 (I’m running Windows XP). Maybe you just accidently installed the game in a weird directory? My bad; all demos from the previous HLSDQ run works fine. You are correct; the problem seems to be in the recording, not in the playback.Haha, I had completely forgotten about VOB! And I was the one who found it…I’m guessing that typical is having a neat hangover today

It could be because I’m running Windows 7, I’ll try it on my XP computer when I eventually get back to my main computer. As for VOB, it’s amazing, although I’m still looking for places where it’s useful other than the bridge and the room with the 3 large pistons, the main problem though with HLS is that you can’t bring props with you to other levels, they just disappear, so your bound to props in that level to VOB. I’m going to try to find a fix for the demo recorder today, I have a few ideas how to fix it, hopefully it’s a quick fix

Full recovery! Going to try out this torrent then.Edit: Couldn’t we just compare the “new” demo files to the old demo files and take out what’s screwing them up?

I’ve already done that, no help there unless your a programmer.

Hmm. We have enough around… Going to take at two small demo files anyway and see where I can find any difference.Edit: Actually. Since we now know it’s the recordings in HL:Steam couldn’t we just tip off Valve and tell them what’s wrong with their game? :PEdit2: It will do…

What exactly is the issue at hand here? You guys having trouble recording and/or playing demos? Cause I don’t have any problems at all using record and playdemo.

Uhh… you serious?

The problem is that in HL:S we are unable to record demo’s in the up to date version of Steam. When we try to play them back the game crashes.

This problem was resolved when we got an earlier version and found out that the playback from the demo’s on that version worked. This means that the problem we had was in the recording of the demo files themselves.

If with earlier version you mean the one that Jared has then nevermind my post

Hey, well I have been playing hl:s a lot, using the demo fix, and I ACTUALLY notice that the sound isn’t synced, this is weird as hell, I didn’t even know this was possible, but then again, I’ve never torrented a game before.

Same. I want to check whether the same problem exists when playing a demo on the steam version because… well it wouldn’t show up and we can record demo’s still.

I know this is fairly old now, but this is how I fixed it.

It turns out the “demoheader.tmp” file is totally missing from it. What I did was, having half-life deathmatch source installed, copied

to both

and

(It may only have to go in one of the two above, but I put it into both just to be sure.)

Once I did that, previously recorded demos still failed to work, but i could record new ones and it worked fine.

Hope this helps!

Whoa! Thanks a bunch man!

I can’t try this 'cause my computer is having a major meltdown at the moment, but this sounds awesome! I’ve modified the first post with your post Tonux so the fix can be found easily. It’s so great (and weird) that there was such an easy solution to this problem. Thanks Tonux!

Sweet. If it it works for me then I’ll put it in OP and this thread can sink to the bottom of the pit.
