The Teleporter that Takes you to Xen

Great that you guys are working on this, I might hopefully join you soon.
btw; would AHK/internal scripts be allowed?

Du är välkommen att delta! (Translation: You’re welcome to join!)

And yeah, AHK/internal scripts would be allowed. I think that SDA would approve of it due to the “grandpa law” or whatever it’s called, but I’m not sure about it.

I get the feeling SDA might think we’re pushing it a little if we try to get this in with AHK. It worked for EP1 because we said it’s basically the same game as HL2, just an addon with a couple of fixes. EP2 will probably work for it too. HL:S is just… there. It’s a remake of an older game on a new engine. Basically, we end up trying to get SOURCE in with the grandfather law, not the game. I dunno.

I don’t know much about hl:s, though I am looking forward to doing this run with you guys (After ep2?), but I’ve been having a test around with the game, and you say you need a boost from the vortigaunt in the test chamber to do like Spiderwaffle did. Could you not use the cart, and do a VOB onto it? I found that if you strafe to the side while doing a VOB, depending on how far you’re moving (Like how much you strafe into the wall), you’ll get different height VOB’s. If done right you can get one that perfectly throws you into that little area. ?

I’ll talk to them about HL:S and using AHK, if they don’t want us to use it, oh well, we will stick with internal scripts.

Or we could just not submit it to SDA? Could get SourceRuns off the ground as a collection of Source… runs ?

Well there’s two reasons for why AHK should be allowed when running HLS:

  1. It’s, like you said, a Source-game. But it’s true that it’s not in the HL2-family, so I don’t know how that changes things.
  2. But also, and most importantly, the original HL runs are made with scripts and basically we’re competing against them (sort of). Although I agree that HLS is a weird game in that most people will probably compared it to HL-runs but it’s really different in a lot of ways. Oh well.

There's an demo in my first demo-pack that shows a VOB up to the window actually. I was the one who mentioned the vortigaunt-boost... but it seems that EVERY object on the map is removed during the level-change. I don't know if the vortigaunt would be removed, that's why I mentioned it, but I'm pretty certain that it would :(

If we do the test-chamber the normal way it will take about 1min 3seconds. It takes ~30seconds to get the cart to the right position to do a VOB to the level-change trigger that’s located HIGH up in the air - so hitting that trigger would definitely be faster. But the problem remains: How the hell could we survive the landing?

Another thing that we could try, though it’s pretty desperate: There’s a big piece of stone that falls down at the start of the next level, it bounces around and maybe it’s possible to use the physics of that stone to be thrown up to the window? Doubt it, but HL2-physics have been nice to us in the past…

True, it would be very hard, but if we can’t get to that side, we can always use the broken anti-mass spectrometer. No one said this speedrun would be easy :stuck_out_tongue:

What engine is the edge glitch in? It’s also possible that the crouch glitch works here too as Valve may have put their crouch in the same way that they did in their previous gldsrc games therefore making the same bug happen. I really don’t want to test it though. Too tired. :frowning:

The edge glitch works in HL:S, and I’m not too sure about the crouch glitch.

On another subject, where is Dale :frowning:

I’m lurching around but I’ve just been so damn sick lately. Last sunday I started having a soar throat and basically I’ve had a bad cold ever since… damn my weak body! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been thinking about the test chamber VOB trick though. Maybe it’s possible to pull off a VOB of the cart while bunnyhopping? If you could keep your forward speed and succeed with the VOB it could very well be possible to get stuck between those pipes that typical was talking about.

Aw, damn man, getting sick is never fun, I’m kinda used to getting sick though seeing as how I get a migraine on a daily basis. :-\

What is this Test chamber VOB you guys have been talking about, this is something I haven’t really been following up on :stuck_out_tongue:

Stop drinking so much to stop the migraine’s. There’s a changelevel trigger which Dale noticed above the test chamber which you can VOB into. However you don’t survive the fall. Do a search and see if you can find the demo.

Damn, you get migranes on a daily basis? Are you female or do you have an genetic predisposition? These things increase the risk of getting migrane. You should look it up if you already haven’t 'cause it might not be migrane. I’m not sick that often and I don’t have headaches that often either. I do however get some pretty horrific hangovers… but that’s my own fault. A hangover is simply your bodies way of saying that you had too much fun the night before.

Cool, how can you have missed the test-chamber VOB discussion? That damn trick has basically halted the Phase 1 re-run before it even got started :stuck_out_tongue:

I had completely missed this edit of yours typical, I just found it as I was looking through this thread. Why did you start at the “Tentacle alien skip boost 1” with 100h10A? I mean, you made the jump with 100H15A in this video. And I really do think that it’s possible to clear the “Double nade boost” with at least 10H, maybe even more than so. There’s an health-charger not much after “Boost upwards from tram”, you just kill one enemy and there it is (14h 0A → 39h 0A). Taking all the health from a health-charger takes just under 3 seconds which isn’t that much considering all the time that the those nade-jumps saves. Although Spider-Waffle had 84h 0A at this time and he uses that health to do a horizontal grenade-boost down the rails… It depends on how much time we’d earn by doing that nade-boost vs doing our other nadeboosts basically.

Oh, and what trick is shown in the items_through_walls.zip package?

Also I edited my SPIDER-WAFFLE’S MAIN TRICKS breakdown (page 2 of this thread) with these small updates:
22:17 - pressing button through the wall where you grab the scientist that opens the door (HLS: Impossible)
28:32 - jumping from ladder to the fence inside the tall teleportation-maze-chamber (HLS: Possible. It’s easier if you’ve got your back against the wall and do the jump to your left)

I dunno what it is, next month I’m gonna get a brain scan, could possibly be a tumor. It just recently started, so it’s very possible it is. The worst thing about this is when I’m driving, for example, yesterday, I was driving back to my parents house from my soon-to-be apartment, I got a terrible migraine, had to pull over and listen to idoser :stuck_out_tongue: Luckily when I get these, I don’t vomit, it just feels like someone is pounding on my head.

Heh, well when I was reading about it the first time, I was on an iphone, and didn’t have access to a computer, and I was still caught up on the gap before the elevator. I was playing around with it over the weekend though, looks like a pretty cool skip

Oh, and what trick is shown in the items_through_walls.zip package?

It’s me blowing up crates from previous levels and then being able to pick up what was in them in the next level.

It was easier to do with 10A.

boost_1_saves_39_seconds
'this is the first one around the tentacles

boost_2_saves_20_seconds
'this is the second one around the tentacles

boost_3_saves_120+_seconds-30_seconds
'this is the double nade boost. it takes atleast 2 minutes to do all of the level normally minus the 30 seconds it takes to pick up the smg nades

boost_4_saves_17_seconds
'this is the boost up through the floor while on the tram

The amount of time saved were based of rough runs and rough times that I did.

is this run dead? the planning you guys do looks awesome, I don’t want it to be dead D’=

We haven’t worked on this project since I’ve been out of high school.

damn, why did you stop?

We realized this project was a bad idea.

why would such a great speedrun be a bad idea?
