Route Discussion

#1

I am working on a route currently that uses alot of walljumping to skip most of the levels. I have had alot of success so far, but ill post an in depth route explanation (pictures included) of what I have gotten to be the fastest so far. I dont know when thatll happen, but hopefully within a week or so.

Also, if anyone else has suggestions for routes, please post them here.

I’ve gone few a few of the levels myself, but a problem I have some times hit is that you need one of this animals to let you through to the next map.

#3

I am speedrunning Episode Two myself. So far I’ve only been working on the first chapter, which is pretty much dialogue, which means the first chapter is around 10 minutes i believe. I got a run from the beginning of the chapter to next loading, but it is not that much of an impressive run, because there is so much dialogue sequences etc. Here is the run:http://meftp.web.surftown.dk/Martin/wip3d-01.rarAlso, i would like to be a member, and help with the speedrunning of Episode Two. Is that possible?

#4

I havent gotten a chance to look at your demo, but, as of my route so far, the only dialog that they say is at the very beginning and when Alyx says ‘Look at this’. After that, i skip every dialog scene in the first chapter. I do 5 wall jumps to achieve this. Ill post a demo at around 3 pm EST today showing a crude first chapter run.

It’s a group thing. Phase 1 is the best, which is now… Just experimenting with the maps and finding the best route. The next phase sucks… repetitive.Everybody can join in. Once/if we start doing phase 2, everybody tries to get the fastest time for each map, using the same save file. But that will come later.

#6

It looks like my run is useless then, I never realised you could walljump all the way. I would really like to see your demo DemonStrate, and then i will try to help in Phase 1.

Does anybody have that e (+use) AHK script? If not i’ll just duplicate the old space one and edit it.

QUOTE (Pincus @ Oct 17 2007, 11:19 AM) Does anybody have that e (+use) AHK script? If not i’ll just duplicate the old space one and edit it. I use a modified jump script with the added E bind loop and it seems to work okay. I would like to have a better one if someone puts another up. Im at school, so i cant get my script from home right now.Edit: Here is my AutoHotkey script:#z::Run www.autohotkey.com^!n::IfWinExist Untitled - Notepad WinActivateelse Run Notepadreturn; Note: From now on whenever you run AutoHotkey directly, this script; will be loaded. So feel free to customize it to suit your needs.PAUSE::SuspendreturnSPACE::Loop{GetKeyState,state,SPACE,Pif state = U breakSend,{SPACE}Send,{E}Sleep,10}returnEdit2: And here are my very crude run though of Ch1 and Ch2.Ch1: See first post Ch2: See first postHave fun trying to find faster routes.

Very nice, i’m impressed ! =)

#10

Very crude, DemonStrate, very crude indeed :PThat looks like a nice basic route so far, I liked how you skipped the whole antlion underground part.Just a tip, though. I could hear that you have LAlt bounded to press “use” and “jump” at the same time, and it was really annoying.I, personally, like to use “t” for pressing “use” over and over, and LAlt just for jumping, here is my script:CODE Pause::SuspendLAlt::Loop{GetKeyState, state, LAlt, Pif State = UbreakSend, {Space}Sleep, 30}returnt::Loop{GetKeyState, state, t, Pif State = UbreakSend, {e}Sleep, 30}return

Here are my script, they are in separate files :AutoHotKey.ini :CODE #z::Run, www.autohotkey.com^!n::IfWinExist, Untitled - Notepad WinActivateelse Run, Notepadreturn; Note: From now on whenever you run AutoHotkey directly, this script; will be loaded. So feel free to customize it to suit your n eeds.NumpadSub::Run, D:\Logiciels\AutoHotKey\use.ahk;NumpadDiv::Run, D:\Logiciels\AutoHotKey\Jump.ahk use.ahk :CODE Loop{KeyWait, Shift, DSend {e};Sleep, 30;}*NumpadDiv::ExitAppjump.ahk :CODE Loop{KeyWait, RButton, DSend {r};Sleep, 30;}*NumpadDiv::ExitAppSome explaination : I use 2 button in AutoHotKey.ini to run each files script, and I use a button to exit the script in both *.ahk script (NumpadDiv). jump and use are the same script, so I explain use.ahk; I’ve to hold the “Shift” button to spam the use command which is binded to “r” and when a realease the “Shift” button it stop.

Okay, Well, ive spent some hours testing, and found for Ch3, you have to fight the antlion guards. You have to. The area at which the exit it located is completely sealed off until the vortigaunt zaps the generator to start the elevator. I found that to be pretty depressing :(. In other news, I found out how to go through all of Ch4 without the car at all. It requires tons of skills and luck, but its completely feesable and possible. You have to have the powered pickaxe from Ch3 to do it (well, do it most efficiently). I will post up some demos here soon.Edit: If you need anymore proof that anything is possible in a game, then watch these demos of Ch3 and Ch4. :-D.Ch3: See first postCh4: See first post

I’m having a bit of trouble with trying to do the second map of Ch5. I got Ch5 to where i skip going through all that crap with the sniper sentrys and getting the car and whatnot. All i need to do is go about… 50 feet vertically to get to this one top of a building, then i can get the rest of the way without any help. It has to be done in this one spot and there are no walls to walljump against (other than the building itself, but it only goes about half way up to get to part of its invisible block on top of it). I just need a good amount of vertical height easily. Anyone have any ideas?Edit: Okay, after alot of different tries, I finally got something that worked. I did an ABH into a barrel and if you hit it at the right angle, itll knock you into the air high enough. I originally tried doing some orb jumps, but i couldnt get the right object to be able to do it. Itll take alot of skill and luck to get this to work, but i was able to do it 2 times out of the 50 or more that i tried it. Sounds like im good to go. :)Edit2: Okay, Ch5 is now done. My original routes didnt work, because you needed the car in my Part6, so i renamed those demos as -alt after the original demoname. The edited routes which allow for you to proceed in Part6 are in there with the normal naming scheme. Have fun watching.Ch5: See first post

Hopefully, tonight, im going to record the demos using Fraps and throw them up on YouTube for the people that don’t have Episode 2. Ill post links at the first post and this one when they are up.

#15

Maybe you should include this trick: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6m32ALUVIjQ&mode=related&search=

#16

I reran my whole route run so far. I changed only minor things, but now its alot better. I include the saves as well as the demos in the RARs now. Also, shortly, ill have links to YouTube videos of each chapter. Also, i changed the name scheme to how HL2DQ had its demos and saves.

confusing post goes here

#18

Huh?

#19

Sorry, my post was a little confusing.According to Valve, they will update Half-Life 2 with the newest version of the Source engine (the one that Episode Two uses). Depending on how much Valve changes Half-Life 2 (hopefully only graphical), maybe we can (separately) speedrun the Episode Two maps using Half-Life 2, thus letting us use old tricks.Does this seem like a good idea?

Ummm, ARE YOU INSANE??? If they update NOT just the graphical, but the engine part too, we can use SPD and ABH in Hl2. ABH is better than flying imo, because it requires alot more skill, but its sooo also much faster. I know we’ll get flying back, but i highly doubt they would only update the graphicalness of Hl2. That means that we could rerun hl2… and just zooooom literally through alot of the bigger maps… Plus, even if you lost flying, you still have walljumping. Or this.Well, you can get past maps before _06 faster with flying.
