Portal Done Pro

I am upset with you because you double posted.

Fuck you.

I went there.

AIRBOAT SPEEDRUN!

Is the logo ready yet? I’ll make a mock up of your mock up

I’m going with the one that is like 12 posts up.

Go with white.

http://img228.imageshack.us/f/somethingt.jpg/ Yeah, a mock up of your mock up as I said, didn’t take really long to make… I don’t know, it doesn’t really bring anything new to your creation but it was fun to make at least.

I made some tweaks, so here’s two versions…

The quality of the portals in full screen is pretty low since I don’t believe there are bigger samples of them available but I don’t know if they even have to be that large

That does look epic. Needs just a little tweak though. Mike said he wanted something basic but I think it might be too basic.

Yes, that was sweet!

What did you use to make this? That includes program to make it and files (like the portal icon, fonts, etc). The main problem I have with my logo is that I can’t make it any bigger, because I could not find a bigger version of the portal icon. I would have liked to vectorize what I did, but I’ve never made vectors before. Thanks!

That text I made with 3dsMax and I saved it as interlaced .png so the background could be changed later on. The font is Arial Bold with some kerning and two layers, other black, other white plus it has bevel in it which makes it 3d. The portal icon I believe I took from here; http://renklerveisiklar.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/1192058158-portal.jpg which was kind of a mistake as I just found that this has a better resolution icon: http://t3chh3lp.com/storage/post-images/gaming/games/Logo_PortalStillAlive.jpg. All the editing was made in Photoshop and I did also think about vectorizing the icon but don’t have any experience of that.

Well, nonetheless I remade those logos with the high quality portal icons at least they look better now.

The second one is my fav, but shouldn’t the blur be going only backwards :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah well maybe it should be, I guess I wasn’t really thinking with portals or something :P. I can also make quickly a version with a black, or desaturated inside, it could perhaps even look better that way. I think there’s also some inconsistency with my logos as those portal edges aren’t really mirrored which I made of course in purpose but I don’t think that’s worth complaining, you can’t miss the basic idea and you don’t really even notice that unless you start thinking too theoretically. Well it’s up to DemonStrate if he wants to use any of them. His logo was very good on its own.

Any chance I can get a download link of the version of Portal that you use Mike? I’m having a nightmare doing OOB tricks on the up to date version. :stuck_out_tongue:

Any can I find an edge glitch tutorial anywhere? :-\

I’ll put up a torrent for it once I make the final video. Can someone help me use the startmovie command? I’m kinda confused how to get it to not suck ass. I want to make a video of the quality of HL2DQ… so I need some assistance in that. Thanks!

Change resolution in portal to 1280x720, start it windowed.

startmovie avi

In the dialog the pops up choose uncompressed, and then do viewdemo . The uncompressed avi should be saved somewhere in your portal folder I think. When you have all parts just drop them all into Vegas or some such editing program where you can choose a codec, h264 for instance…

How do you set the framerate it captures at? Also, what were the encoding settings on the HL2DQ Insane Quality video?

The current Portal XQ video is merely perfect I’d say, didn’t you do it?
Use host_framerate to control the framerate, and here are the informations about the HL2DQ video:

Bit rate: 5 000 Kbps
Width : 852 pixels
Height: 480 pixels
Frame rate: 30.000 fps

I guess you’ll go with 720p, thus 4k bitrate is a minimum, if the video is more or less 20 minutes, then you could go with 15k bitrate (the current one is 13k), which should result in a half-dvd size video (2240 MB).
Keep in mind that if you use x264, it’s way more efficient than before (HL2DQ used svn466, now it’s 1666).
