I think i figured it out. Theres a little corner to the HEV platform, because its not perfectly round. I somehow managed to land on it the exact second the glass opened, so i got the HEV instantly. I think its possible to do over again, but it needs to be practiced a hell of a lot.
I also got 14s; I wallstrafed down the straight section, it’s actually pretty fast. 13s might be possible but it would be annoying.I used my standard 3hop script: create “half-life source\h1\cfg\autoexec.cfg”:alias +bhop "+jump; wait; -jump; wait; +jump; wait; -jump; wait; +jump"alias -bhop -jumpThen in game “bind space +bhop”.There should be no need for 3rd party tools.Anyway bunnyhopping seems a bit different from HL1. You gain hardly any speed after the first jump. It seems like mostly you’re just coasting from your first circlejump, like in HL2DM.
Ok here’s a 29 sec demo for the 2nd map.Click meWho’s going to beat it? :PQUOTE Anyway bunnyhopping seems a bit different from HL1. You gain hardly any speed after the first jump. It seems like mostly you’re just coasting from your first circlejump, like in HL2DM. Yeah I reconignized that too. It’s all about the first jump.edit:screw the demo up there. A better one is on the way.edit2:That demo is the best I can get. but 28-29 secs is possible (faster than mine anyway.).
Hey, i know i can cut off a second. When i get to the door after you get the HEV suit, i can be at 11 seconds, while your run was at 12 seconds, so i know i can at least get rid of one second. My problem is, after i come out that door, its giving me such a difficult time to get that speed you had going down the long hallway. Ill keep trying, but i know at least you can get rid of 1 second.
10 sec at the door can be possible!http://files.filefront.com/c1a0d_InsaneB4s…;/fileinfo.htmlCheck out this one (yeah it’s better than the last). I can’t get the end right bunnyhopping in this game is a pain in the ass (at least for me -.-). I think this is probably the fastest route for the beginning.edit:damnit is this close to 28 seonds, 1 frame less and I would have made it.

I think its possible to do over again, but it needs to be practiced a hell of a lot.I knew that HEV-“doors” aren’t entirely round (you can actually get stuck in the corners or the glass-“doors”). I just did a similar demo myself, landed at the same place and getting the HEV before the glass was opened. It’s still pretty weird to me…QUOTE (RandomEngy)I also got 14s; I wallstrafed down the straight section, it’s actually pretty fast. 13s might be possible but it would be annoying.I thought of that as well, but I thought that a speedy bhop would be faster than a wallstrafe. I’m still note sure which one is faster…I used Spider-Waffle’s bhop script for a while, but I don’t know how other runners think. If we would use console scripts we still couldn’t know if anyone used AHK. As long as we’re playing with the same rules I mean. “A script is a script is a script” like MaximusX said it in some thread But I don’t know…no AHK or AHK runner? okey or not?..As for this map: I haven’t managed to get a 28s, but I’m guessing it’s possible…let’s say that 28s is the target.looks at uncompleted short-movie script that he has to write
I don’t really care if we use AHK or a HL script. As long as the results are good.Oh and I finally managed 28 sec. http://files.filefront.com/c1a0d_InsaneB4s…;/fileinfo.htmlAutosave should be OK also.QUOTE wallstrafe.Errrr, how does that work???
Gj, Bastard! Lol. I played it for a while, and kept trying to find the best way to get the suit, but you win. I got really good at bunnyhopping now, though. It should really help me out on other maps. I had a run that was 29s, but like 6-7 frames off from 28. Arg. I think you topped the cake for that one. Next map ahoy!
There. Okay, i got 19s for c1a0a. Go for it guys! I dont know how possible 18s is, but give it a go.http://files.filefront.com/c1a0a_DemonStra…;/fileinfo.html
AArgh. I’ll pass on this map. That elevator drop is giving me a headache. I don’t know how possible 18 sec is ( I never ever managed the elevator drop…), but that looked good so far!Has anyone this feeling too, when you watch a demo from someone else, that it always looks faster than yours??And WTF is wallstrafing???
QUOTE (InsaneB4st4rd @ Apr 17 2006, 12:24 AM)Has anyone this feeling too, when you watch a demo from someone else, that it always looks faster than yours??And WTF is wallstrafing???Yes, when watching others play it feels like they are faster…strange stuff Wallstrafing (quote from Spider-Waffle’s comments):QUOTE Wall strafe: holding forward and strafing against a wall, makes you move 22% faster.I’m not sure if it’s 22% faster in HLS but you go faster anyway.I’m trying to beat your 28sec c1a0d run - but it’s hard!
I don’t know exactly how long your demo is but it seems like it’s like 28.08 or something like that - if you would have done 1 mistake it would have been 29
Have you gotten 28sec many times? Also: I looked in your FileFront profile and found 2 SOF2 speedruns attempts, you didn’t continue with that one? Watching those runs made we want to do a run myself, I downloaded the demo (even though I own SOF2-full) but the demo was censored
Also there is a rumour of a “SOF3: Exodus”, but there is no info…SOF3 would be great! :)EDIT:I’ve updated the first thread with 3 more videos of possible shortcuts that I forgot to post:- Dark_Devil’s tau/gauss shortcuts tests:http://files.filefront.com/tau_cannon_shor…;/fileinfo.htmlhttp://files.filefront.com/tau_cannon_shor…;/fileinfo.htmlhttp://files.filefront.com/tau_cannon_shor…;/fileinfo.html
QUOTE Has anyone this feeling too, when you watch a demo from someone else, that it always looks faster than yours??Ive noticed there are about 3 main speeds that you can get off of the first jump for b-hopping. I had this problem when i tried to do c1a0d, because alot of the time, i would only get to the second speed, and not the third, like you did in your demo. Ive almost got it down to where i can do either the 2nd or 3rd speed really easily. The first speed is really slow. Lol. Anyway, i only go second speed on the c1a0a when im passing down the longer hall with the 2 scientists, so its possible to get a faster run. Even though thats the longest hall on the map, it would probably only get about .5 of a second increase in time, so i dont see it being worth it. I actually had more trouble hitting the button to open the elevator than the jump. Ive played a shitload of surf maps on CS in my day, so it wasnt too difficult to learn how to get the ladder. In this run, i landed it perfectly to make it exactly to the opening area of the lower door, which is hard as hell to do. Using mine or we going to wait for Dale to try c1a0d some more? I can try to redo c1a0a if you dont think its fast enough.Edit: I also realized my _2 is really short… is that fine or should i do it again?
Wow a kajillion 19’s, one one tick away from 18, so certainly possible… I’ll try again tomorrow.
Im gonna be amazed if he gets that 18 seconds. I still have such a hard time in the first 2 seconds. Being able to hit that elevator button annoys me to no end. Lol. If you can get perfect bhops down the 4 halls, then 18s should be really close to possible. Much harder to bhop in this, though, which makes it rediculous.
I do a lot of wallstrafing in it. I think the main reason I want to get this time is to show it’s a valid alternative to bunnyhopping in HL:S; I think it’s more like 40% faster, not 22%.
QUOTE (InsaneB4st4rd @ Apr 17 2006, 06:04 PM)I got 28 seconds about 5 times. I can’t believe that…it’s impossible! I’ve never managed to get 28s, it is impossible! There are some things which can be improved, but still I can’t beat that time…great job! QUOTE And yes I started a SoF2 run some time ago but never had the time to continue (will do that when I finished moving). After HL2:E1 I think I’ll pick it up again. Or we could do a team effort. if demo recording/playback works.I haven’t tried running SOF2 as a speed-run, but now I’m thinking of it (since a few days ago when I saw your videos). Not sure if we’ll do a team-run but I think demo’s would work (Q3engine was good with demos - not like Q4).QUOTE Okay, enough off topic now. xDhaha, nah this is my thread - don’t worry
--About this map: 18seconds should be the the time for this current map.Remember jumping on the pipes to the right after that door opens, then you can crouch-jump over the “generator”-thing and activate the door-trigger faster.
So, basically, i should just run against a wall, and ill be able to do it faster? Ill go try it right now.
I’ll provide some ascii art, in case anyone isn’t clear on the technique:CODE ###|###|###|^ <— You, facing parallel to the wall, moving forward and strafing left into it###|###|I also found that at least in HL1 you go a little faster if you look just a bit toward the wall instead of directly parallel.
