Half-Life segmented in 20 minutes 41 seconds

From what I saw, he didn’t take any damage from the grenade
He shot the scientist once to stop his scripted sequence, then moved to the other side so that he would run away toward the door, then he throws a grenade to kill the scientist AND blow his body up to be able to jump through the door faster (usually you shoot him in the head and he takes about 1-2 seconds to complete his dying sequence), and the scientist blocked the damage from the grenade. Usually you kill him under the door so that the body prevents the door from closing and locking after entering, so destroying the body should not be a good idea, but from what I saw, they go through the door closing trigger BEFORE the door is completely opened, thus making it stay opened. It is also possible that they will manage to get out before it closes, but I think it’s more likely that the door ain’t gonna close.
That is what I understood in the segment, if the entire run is THAT awesome I guess you’ll need to slow the run a lot during the commentary :stuck_out_tongue:

This is an actual segment from the run.

Shooting the scientist to abort his scripted sequence. He will get in panic and flee away from you. Asap when he starts to run away, I block his path. He will calculate a new path, this time towards the door.
Before he gets there I put a grenade between him and the door to blow up asap when the door stars to open. Since the scientist is between me and the grenade, he will block off the explosion from me so I wont take any damage. So the grenades only purpose is to clear the scientist.
This all gotta have perfect timing along with good speed in. Because I gotta enter the door-trigger before the door is completely open. If it still moves the trigger wont do anything. If I would be too late, the door would close and im trapped inside. It’s a trigger_once so its only usable, guess what, once.

I looked for the optimal spot to shoot scientist in. If I would shoot sooner, his paths would end up wrong. I also used 20 fps to make him turn around faster after fleeing the first time.

O_O
That sounds so complicated but it makes sense now.
How long I wonder did it take you to do something like this? Or did you just do it by random, luck?

That’s insane.

I really hope you do a very detailed video commentary, perhaps even have it ready before you release the run so that one can watch it immediately afterwards. It would be really cool with some commentary like the one you did for your opposing force run.

I think I spent +3 hours on it. The length is only 5.47 seconds.
Due to the ridiculous timing and precision required I did some scripting to ease it a bit. Since the NPC to open door trick won’t work if saving, it also had to be done in one segment.
Cant make it much faster either, because that wouldn’t leave enough time for the grenade to explode. If using nade before shot, you’d have to make scientist 1.0s faster somehow. Since switching weapon takes 0.5s.

A video commentary released together with the run would be gold indeed. There we could also show a ton of new but obsoleted tricks that didn’t make it into the run.
It’s a lot of effort to make such a in depth commentary though. That’s why my Blue Shift commentary got stuck. I think spider-waffle would do it, but I doubt his knowledge about video edit. Oasiz talked about doing it as well.
But it’s also hard to split the work due to the amount of data ect. Just look at the PDPer crew >___>

We’ll have a commentary one way or another.

PDPer is stuck because z1m and Gocnak are fucking lazy, not because lack of knowledge or communication.

(Loving being known for not being lazy. Hell yeahhhhh)

Seriously can’t wait for this run :|.

Yeah, this.

Whaa? You guys are no longer on 38 anymore? How long was I gone!?

You’ve been gone? I’ll write the story about 38 later.

Meanwhile

What the fuck, I remember being completely amazed by SW’s run back when it came out, and this chapter alone makes it look as sluggish as the runs it obsoleted! You guys are sick. Can’t wait for you to finish this project.

Which chapter is the 38 from?

Thank you moozooh. I’m quoting myself from SDA so you guys might get the idea of what have happened past months.

Status update

After a long, long time being stuck on segment 38 we are now moving forwards again. We worked on 38 back in June, July, getting an OK time. But spider-waffle insisted that it easily could be improved putting some more effort on it
(maybe 0.5s improvement on a 13.35s segment). But months passed by without any improvements. So finally spider-waffle agreed with a deadline on November 5th.

This long break and lack of progress wasn’t for nothing though. Many improvements have been found during this period. Estimated time is down to sub-24. So now we are entering the realms of Blast Pit.
Expect the Time Sheet to be updated at least weekly.

Wow
Nice

First segment of Blast Pit is done.
I found 25 additional free hp from a healing scientist in Blast Pit.
4 second saving trick on Gonarch by coolkid.
Nihilanth will be cut in half with a new gauss fastfire trick. 38.1s » 17.4s or lower, 54% faster (the actual fight, not the whole map)

bump

Blast Pit, c1a4f, Generator map is done. Another map almost cut in half. Had unexpected problems on this one. Once the buttons is pressed, it takes 12 seconds before the electricity is activated. This is also triggered globally to be usable to the fire later on another map. So it has to be activated before getting onto next map. With optimal demos i could change map after about 11.7s. So I simply had to delay myself .3s, which I fortunately could do at the health charger, getting additional 3 hp. Currently 8 hp above the plan right now.

I’ll let you see what the mod looks like while running. Really sweet.

This is amazing! Any easy segments soon?

I’m sorry, there is no easy segments.

Whoaaa…
That is crazy…

Any easy segments soon? :D
easy segments soon?
easy segments

d2_coast_05 is the other way, sir.
