doxliy:nice work  that must’ve been a hard work to create 2 demos. there’s no reason to be against it for me if it looks smoother.as for breen_01, you start with blackscreen then it fades-in taking about 5sec.also it would be nice if you can add chapter titles with editer, like “WE DON’T GO TO RAVENHOLM” which is displayed at the start of chapter.edit:something like this.http://www.hl2dq.net/uploads/773748530/p2…rkdevil_29s.rar

First off, congrats to everyone! I was hoping to get a segment in at some point but you guys just proved too dedicated and talented for me. :)Second, replacment segments have precedent in my Half-Life run. I think 3 of them are replacment segments so at one or two points I inexplicably lost a point of health or a few 9mm bullets. It’s explained in the run commentary so you shouldn’t have any problem doing it.As for the video. If you need me to do it, I’m your man. I would capture in high-quality widescreen with max graphical settings and I’ve been keeping up with the “shake” mitigation stuff. I probably wouldn’t put in a running timer, but IMO it would be distracting anyway. More than likely it will just be the runner’s name at the start of the segment, then fading out. I’d also re-do the sound to make sure the music doesn’t cut off at map-loads and add the fade-in stuff. If anyone has a cool, short intro I would add it at the beginning. And I would probably replace the HL2 credits with the runner credits, as it was a popular option.I really love this project so I’d be willing to put in a lot of time to get it right, but if jrb wants to tackle it instead, I’ll leave it to him.

woohoo, that makes me happy.Good news at last.

You’re too good RandomEngy :stuck_out_tongue:

That made me real happy aswell! Thanks a lot RandomEngy, your a nice guy for sure!I’m not sure what the deal will be with jrb - one thing that is good is that RandomEngy is very active here (and on SDA) so we could give/get feedback quite easily. What happens now? jrb / RandomEngy ?—Also about “adding demos” to the run:I guess it would be okey, even though that barrel would be quite fun to have in the run - like “why did they do that?”

Congrats all  finally the projext was done :)Waiting for HL² Episode one now

RandomEngy, you’re teh Man! B)

2 Demos for you Max :)2 gravjump on coast_01

There are two runs of c17_01 by suga (2:29)http://www.hl2dq.net/uploads/118861786/p2_…_suga_2m29s.rar/urlandhttp://www.hl2dq.net/uploads/1545333542/p2…_suga_2m29s.rar (with lifting and headwalking)I think it’s better with headwalking =)Your suggestions ?

Second if it’s more interesting.

Yeah the second one, besides that one is the one we used when we continued on the next map so it’s the “real” one…plus it’s better

doxily, feel free to make that movie, but please don’t post it outside of the private forum until the high quality video is finished! If you post it beforehand and everybody downloads, nobody will bother getting the high quality, possibly DVD version. Posting it at the same time as the other video is fine though, that way they both have a chance at being seen.Second, if RandomEngy wants to do the HQ version, I would be more than happy to accept it! Maybe if jrb is still interested, he can make the trick movie. He would probably like that more anyway, as he has more “artistic” freedom.Couple things I was hoping would get into the final movie:1.) HL2DQ special intro, with HL2DQ, SDA (if we’re accepted), maybe quick run-through of runner names, etc.2.) HL2 intro, although this is not counted for SDA timing.3.) HL2DQ clock that appears on-screen once we start timing (beginning of tram), then shrinks and goes into one of the corners, then fades away. Something to that effect, that shows when timing begins.4.) Runner names, and maybe current time, that appear on the bottom of the screen and fade away at the beginning of each new demo (not _2.dems).5.) Demos and _2.dems are seamed together, and beeping noises upon demo loads to be removed. Doxily knows how to do this. By the way, if at any point in a _2.dem we are just standing there, just take a few frames of this and leave the rest out. If we stood there it was to make the actual demos more seamless, we wouldn’t just stand there in a real demo.6.) If possible, I’d also like the sound of ammo being taken to be removed upon demo loads. Not sure if this is possible though.7.) In some parts where it would look good, we should use some re-cam effects, but obviously not too many. The only spot I can think of that needs it for added effect right now is the prison_01_p1 scene like suga did. Maybe we can have some blinking text somewhere on the screen that says “recam” while a window in one of the corners shows the first-person view.8.) Once the portal thing explodes, a similar thing to suggestion number 3 should be used to signify that timing has stopped.9.) HL2 outro, although this is not counted for SDA timing.10.) HL2DQ credits.Sounds like a lot I know, but just wanted to be specific about what I believe should be in there. Also, for the DVD menu deal, I’m pretty sure I can coerce my friend into making it. The idea was to have a menu system identical to the menu system in HL2, but with a maybe slightly faded movie background showing edited out tricks from either the actual movie or the tricks movie. Is anyone willing to cut out some cinematic and good quality tricks from the HL2DQ and HL2DT collections I will soon post? They each only have to be around 5-10s long if that. Doxily?

Well, jrb says he won’t have time to make an out-take movie. Now the trouble is finding someone else to make one. The out-take movie would not be too long as we don’t have a great deal of demos, just a nice quality, maybe 5 minute or so video set to music, etc. Recams and effects would be nice as well. The only trouble is finding someone willing to make one. I don’t know if randomengy is already getting bogged down with the prospect of making the hl2dq movie or no, or how he feels about making a movie that isn’t linear like a speedrun. If he’s up to it, that’s awesome

 1. I would be willing to accept and put in any short animated intros. My plan right now is just to show a logo at the very start before the G-Man starts his speech. However I don’t think a list of the runners will be needed at the beginning if we’re showing them all during the run and in the credits.2) Of course3) Maybe. It might be a little confusing if it’s not animated, or a little too annoying to do if it is.4) My plan is to show the runner’s names. I figure if the viewer wants to keep track of the time they can look at their media player.5) Yes. Is there a console command that eliminates the beeping? I’d love to know that, otherwise I was just planning to silence them out in a sound editor. And yes, any “standing still” frames would be cut.6) If I did that it would just be by silencing that part. Removing only certain noises would be notoriously difficult in post-processing and I doubt we can fiddle with the gcfs while in game. I’ll have to listen to it each way and see what sounds better.7) Re-cam effects: I don’t plan on doing any of these. At its heart, the video I’m trying to make is simply a playthrough of the game. I understand there was some interest in making a “souped-up” version of the run with more editing and custom music. In my opinion something like a re-cam would more belong there.8) See #39) Of course10) I plan to use Option’s credit-replacement tool for this.As for the proposed DVD, I’m not going to have anything to do with that; I have no experience in the area.Anyway I take it from the positive responses that you’re okay with me starting on it.This weekend I’m going to try and get my capture method figured out and get one or two segments in the “done” state before I try and tackle it all. (And install my new 250 gig drive.) I’ll make a thread to post my progress and sample when I get there.

1.) Cool. Leaving the names out is fine with me. I’m pretty flexible with the parts where I said “maybe” :)3.) Well I was thinking in terms of a little clock with a moving hand, that makes “ticking” noises as it goes. It’s time on screen would be very short-lived. I don’t know for sure, but there may be people willing to make such an animation in 3d studio or maya, as I know there were a few people competing to make the final hl2dq logo in 3D.4.) Not showing the time I’m also fine with. I only included that because I thought I read in your post you wanted it.5.) I think there is. Doxily did it in his LQ version. 6.) I was thinking the same thing about removing sounds for that second if it isn’t removing any important sounds at the time and doesn’t sound weird.7.) I agree with the re-cams, but I didn’t want a super souped up re-cam edition, just in one place where it would actually clarify things for the viewer. Without the re-cam in that map, they would not appreciate what happened since they can’t see it on-screen and was very difficult for me to do. Here’s suga’s recam if you haven’t already seen it, to give you an idea of what I mean:http://files.filefront.com/p2_d2_prison_01…;/fileinfo.html10.) Cool.Wasn’t talking about you making any DVD. If it gets made my friend will most likely be the one to do it. What I meant was the short side movie showing all the out-takes glitches we found while making the runs, and some stunts we included along with it. Wouldn’t be too long and you would have more freedom with moviemaking, because it’s not linear like the speedrun is. Would you be interested?

Redoing b5ks run is going to be a bit more annoying that I first imagined, and since I’m leaving soon and have finals coming up, I decided we should just leave it in and move on.http://files.filefront.com/HL2DQ_Demos___F…;/fileinfo.htmlThat’s the full collection of demos, including _2.dems. Will post rared trick demos later.

** BEGIN TRANSMISSION **Personally, I think all things are pointing towards a large spinning octahedron in the CENTER OF THE SCREEN throughout the entire run. Preferably with a HL2DQ logo and each runner’s name emblazoned in EMERALD and TAIPAN. I think that the amount of time that we’ve ALL spent on “THE PROJECT”, together with the prevailing opinion of each and every one of the runners makes it clear to all of us that this SHOULD be the REQUIRED COURSE OF ACTION. I’m not trying to be overly dogmatic, but let me DISSEMINATE SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION:-1.) In all the coast maps, the prevailing opinion seems to be that there should be a BLINDING WHITE FLASH OF LIGHT each time the player encounters a metal surface. Furthermore, this SHOULD be accompanied by a HIGH-PITCHED HELIUM-INDUCED SQUEAL of the current runner’s name - preferably whilst the player has BARBED WIRE violently inserted into their rectum.2.) The bloopers, tricks, outtakes, discharges, miscellanea, outrages, stoppages, suspensions, and so on and so forth shall be included on a supplementary DVD chapter called “Prox]I[muS-Y : Hurtling Towards the Ends Of Invention”. I think EVERYBODY here agrees this is long overdue / is the required course of action / compliant with the prevailing opinion of most of the contributors.3.) For points 4 to 10 onwards, please see my following posts where I shall continue to DISSEMINATE THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION.BTW, I am not entirely lacking in your so-called “HUMOR”. Here is a token smilie for you: :)…and another. :)Yours truly,Prox]I[muS-Y (The Indefatigable)EOF

Seconded! And if this is useful at all, here’s all the files you guys have uploaded to hl2dq.net:http://hl2dq.net/uploaded_files.phpHow about the clock is just a digital readout starting at 0:00:00 on the lower middle of the screen and fades away… and then fades in at the end?It would be easy and it would get the point across I think.

First of all, I’d like to make it abundantly clear that your post, while decidedly tongue in cheek, did in fact, make me “laugh out loud”.That said, let me explain a few of the subtle points your post, laced in humor, seemed to address. I will do so in a manner which you might enjoy; using the number based system.1.) While the language of my posts may sometimes make it appear that I have a heavy iron bar lodged directly up my posterior, please understand that I do so only to better convey the messages I wish to express. In real life you would not recognize me simply by the manner in which I speak. You might also notice I am exaggerating such a style at this time.2.) I sense a bit of a disgruntled attitude coming from you. If you are a runner who disagrees with me or with any of my sentiments, please, feel free to use your true name and express it at this time. You cannot possibly expect to see changes made if you do not voice your opinions when it counts. Sadly, it often takes too long before “enough” people have had their say on it, let alone more than two or three.3.) On the other hand, if you are NOT someone who has participated in this project, even so much as to support us in our forums, I will have to say your opinion in the matter means nothing at all. I realize this point didn’t need it’s own number, but the previous paragraph was getting much too long.4.) The runners names, bloopers, and other such features have been suggested by more than just myself. In fact, the idea of an “out-takes” video was not even mine.5.) Despite the fact that I appreciated the humor in your post, I must say I did not enjoy the anonymous mockery, nor the obviously indignant undertones.6.) You do not get a smiley face in reply. Suck it.
