lol, its just 9 seconds faster? all said it would knock off 1 minute and a half

lol yeah. not sure why people thought that. still, like DemonStrate mentioned, if I/we did the map with paulys tricks, we could probably speed up the last bit, and maybe make it ~13s faster. thats if the trick is still possible / anyone can do it. Im actually starting to doubt it is possible, I’ve had a go at reproducing it, and so have alot of people, and so far we have no luck. Im just waiting for some other people to give some input, to see where we go from here.

I tried for about 4 hours with no luck reproducing it.

wow, commitment, nice! Im getting more and more inclined to think that it isnt actually possible anymore. what do you guys think?

QUOTE (Cat4lYs7 @ Jan 10 2006, 07:55 PM)wow, commitment, nice! Im getting more and more inclined to think that it isnt actually possible anymore. what do you guys think?Yeah, I tried to reproduce it a few days ago and I still believe that Valve probably has fixed it somehow…unless Pauly did something very, VERY, strange!Keep running the map with the normal teleporting method, make it perfect…because if Valve has fixed Pauly’s teleporting then we’ll allready be done with the map!..and if Valve haven’t fixed it, then we’ll start running it with Pauly’s method (when/if it’s revealed)

its the “if” that i’m worried about.

Has anybody else got Dog to throw the van all the way across the map and so high it bounces off the skybox? I’ll see if I can get him to do it again and record if not ;PThis map looks like it has a lot of possibilities, I’ll play with it a little. By the way, I’m back until March 27th.

http://www.hl2dq.net/uploads/834549180/d3_…sx_vanthrow.rarHeh, not sure how/if this can be used, but it’s funny to see :PIf you stand over the rocks on the van as he picks it up, they launch you VERY fast to the roof, and can be much faster than is in the demo (I didn’t jump at the perfect time). Also, if you stand in a different place over the van, Dog can launch you forward very fast, but you slow down very quickly. Just fun stuff that might come in handy later on, who knows. I don’t normally check console error messages that frequently pop up when abusing HL2’s physics system, but after I had Dog launched me forward (not in this demo), I got this. Is it saying the van went too fast, or I did? http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/7076/d3c170200005lv.jpgOh and suga, I don’t know how you got Dog to react that way, but first of all, were you using God mode? Second, is that where we need to go? Third, try using a bigger object than a box.

About suga’s dog trick (the one where he push you through the combine gate?)First: God mode was not used, the trick is pretty easy to duplicate getting through the wall as far as he did.Second: That is where we need to go.Third: If there is to be a bigger object than that box, it either has to be brought in from a previous map or the garbage bins will have to be used (which I think will kill you). The garbage bins (green ones look right when you start the map) are hard to put in place because you have to use the grav gun left click to move it and I am not good at this (bad launch aim). Not only that, but you still have to be in place and not get crushed. If you can’t get anything to work, I might be able to try a little bit tomorrow… a little bit.

Also, what was so special about Paulys demo? I didn’t see anything special, I’ve got Dog to run straight to the van as well, I just hopped out there? …

QUOTE (Max)I[muS-X,Jan 11 2006, 03:56 AM] Also, what was so special about Paulys demo? I didn’t see anything special, I’ve got Dog to run straight to the van as well, I just hopped out there? … In Pauly’s demo he activates the scripts himself, you can see it especially on the 2:nd script (Dog opening the door). Dog is running towards the beginning of the map then Pauly presses some button on his keyboard at the door and in an split-second Dog comes (teleported). We have tested to activate scripts by pressing buttons ourself, but nobody has managed to reproduce it.Pauly was here a couple of days ago and said that he would ge it a try again…but that was the last we heard from him :frowning:

If Valve has fixed this “bug”, it might work with doxliy’s fix. I’m not saying the old engine version should (or shouldn’t) be used for this map, but just for testing purposes…

How can you tell he presses a button on his keyboard? Isn’t that something you’d have to literally see? EDIT: Hmm, that is strange. I wonder if this script Pauly is referring to uses a console command? Here is his original post about it on the old forums thanks to Google cache.–Posted by: Pauly Dec 23 2004, 11:41 PMI got 1:07 on d3_c17_02.http://www.hl2dq.tngamer.com/upload/d3_c17…pauly_1m_7s.demNew trick- seems to be a bug with the scripting sequence with dog. I have only been able to get it to work a few times.lol lol–Um, very vague  Couldn’t find ONE other post about the run. It LOOKS like he just submitted it and it was accepted. Nobody seemed to care much about c17_02.Oh and also, I tried suga’s Dog trick but got killed and/or pushed out of the way. Couldn’t get it to push me through at all ;/

By the way, if you want to search the old forums (or what’s left of them), you can use this to help you out.http://web.archive.org/web/*/hl2dq.tngamer.comJust click on January and you can go through some of what was saved. It just seems to take awhile to load pages though. When combined with Google cache it helps a lot though.

just a note, he pressed “+use” and not “send/recall squad”. if you stop the demo with demoui and load the map, you’ll be started with pressing “+” commands what he pressed in the demo. so I stopped his demo while I hear beep sound then loaded the map, and +use didn’t work (because it has already been commanded) and send/recall squad worked. so +use is what he rapidly pressed.Sampa:I’ve already tried with the old version for a while but nothing happened :/Max:yay, you are back :Dlooks like they just added the old site because it was not there some time ago.

so where do we go from here?

Okay, a few things. Max: "Oh and also, I tried suga’s Dog trick but got killed and/or pushed out of the way. Couldn’t get it to push me through at all ;/ "I have tested this and done it before. Its not too difficult, i just studied the demo and recreated it. I have said that i tested it before. I have tried other objects (bigger, smaller). The bigger ones kill you (such as lamarr’s crate and a soda machine and dumpster), the smaller ones don’t push as much, so you get half stuck in the wall. My conclusion i came to before is that the futherest distance that you can get through the wall is how far Suga does get in his demo. That is the fatherest distance i could get (i did get that far also with some other objects, around the crate’s size, or a bit smaller), but i only did a good 3 hours of testing :-P. I tried all different angles, holding methods and standing/sitting positions… I even got stuck in the ground sometimes (it would instantly kill you ever time this happened). I dont think it is possible to get through that door area prematurally.Pauly: I think your trick is some sort of old bug that isnt at all possible now. Suga: Thanks for confirming that Pauly used the ‘use’ key, cause i was wondering what exactly he was pressing. This info doesn’t seem to help us much :(.Everyone: I think that we should just stick with the time Cat got of 1m16s. Noone will crucify us if we don’t get dog to teleport or if we can smash Gordon’s face into a door well enough. This map is becoming too much of a thorn in this project’s completion. If March is what we are going for (or some time around March), i think that we can accept that Valve is smart enough to update the code that made Dog a raving lunatic. Also, Pauly seems to have died or just lost us somehow when we needed him the most. If he would speak up, i probably wouldn’t be as ticked off by how this map is going. Sorry, im tired and i felt like ranting :-D.

hmm, then I’m gonna try running this map with normal method.cat, upload the demo if you can. I wanna see how you did teleport etc.

Is it just me, or does anybody find this type of speed running a little bit boring, ie teleportation? I prefer the normal level running, not these levels with tedious things to do :\ My 2 cents. I still love HL2 but
