Hey guys. Sorry I haven’t been around for a while. I’ve been playing a lot of Smashball and I’m on a personal vacation for around a month. I’ll be back in action after I’m away from my girlfriend and have been to the 2 LANs I have planned, and the London trip… So yeah, I’m pretty busy. Honestly, I’ll be back and we’ll finish this!
Good to hear you’re still up for it though, inex :PAnyway, I’m having trouble subbing a rather mediocre run that came in at 2:41 which is just weird cause I’ve managed runs where it felt like I was going way faster, cutting corners way better and such things and still the time was at least a second behind my 2:41 run. Here’s the link to it (the 2:42 I posted before had two _2.dem files in it which were completely wrong; a _2 demo for the first segment doesn’t even make sense so I dunno why there was one at all, must be the general chaos in my episodic folder).http://www.file-upload.net/download-175939…_2m41s.rar.htmlNow be nice and do not manage to sub that time so that I have my desired part in this run
We had that in the first map. A bad run that for some unexplained reason was faster than the others. The way I figured it out was to get some times for things that were always the same. This way we figure out where you gained time.It was easier in the first map, as most of it was set. When you get Gravity Gun, when Alyx says X, when Dog does Y, etc. But still, you can do it with this. I’m not able to run Episode 1 atm, so I can’t do any of this, was just giving advice for you guys. So figure out where you save your time, maybe we have a major timesaver that we don’t realise in that run. We used to think the gunship skip saved about 2 or 3 seconds, but it saves 10+.
I am still trying this segment a bit now and then. But the summer isnt the time for speedrunning. There are so many things that is fun at the moment.
Hey all, back from holiday now. For 2 weeks, then I have about a week where I go to 2 separate LANs. Good times.Just watched your demos foust, and I love the first segment. Awesomely fast, and it’s shown from the second segment that triggering the trigger isn’t so bad.Any chance of the save from the first segment, so I can try the second? I’d love to try and improve the first, but I don’t see much room for improvement, plus it just looks sexy, so I’d like a stab at the second segment.
Absolutely! Here you go. Good to have you back, man! Activity has been converging to zero since you left.About the segment: I agree, it looks pretty cool and I also make it through the tunnel real fast, but it really is a bit annoying I forgot the trigger. It’s well possible to just jump past the last combine, but a lot of the time you end up getting stuck at him. It’s a little annoying, but I think it would be more annoying for me to try segment 1 again ;DSomething else. I found out how you can make it across the bridge without making it spawn so to say. It’s really weird though. If you jump over the ledge and down to the bridge level, don’t look at the bridge. I know it sounds funny, but it works. It’s hard to explain so I just made a little demonstration demo that I put into the archive. Take a look at it and see for yourself if you think you can even use this to improve the time. Now go ;>
Surely if the bridge doesn’t spawn, neither do the combine soldiers who run across it. Might be worth doing…
Yeah, but they never really bothered me. I rarely run into one of them and have to start over. The only reason for me to use it would be that it looks cool and we could call it ‘The Last Crusade Glitch’ or something
I managed to get a 2:44 but Horse/Inexistance managed a 2:42. I’ll happily move on unless something new pops up or I see something that I’ve done wrong.
Foust’s run is a 2:41 if I recall correctly, even though I believe it has a few mistakes in it. My second segment is quite good, with very few mistakes I recall.I don’t think we should move on yet, as there’s clearly some things that are different. With Typical’s save, which I used, he dodged the trigger, so I can run straight through there. But Foust’s save doesn’t dodge the trigger. However, he does it overall faster, as his segment is 8 seconds long and gets to the bottom of the stairs. Typical’s is 8 seconds long and only gets partway through the gap you crouch through. And so Typical’s is set up better, but Foust’s is faster. With Foust’s save, I find I have to slow down a little to get past the combine at the start, and I find this very difficult to do a lot of the time.I’d prefer to use Typical’s segment and save, as it lets me perfect other parts of the map better, but Foust’s save is clearly faster. I’m really unsure which segment we should use, but I’m certain that we shouldn’t move on yet.
I’ve been trying all of today and a lot of yesterday to beat foust’s run. I rewatched your run foust and went through it tick by tick near the end, and on the VERY last tick, it turns 2:34, which makes your run 2:42. I doubt anyone would notice it tbh, but I have a 2:41 run using your first segment. It has one minor mistake, but to me it seems to just ooze speed.2:41Judge for yourselves, I’m honestly not concerned which run is picked for this, but it seems there’s relatively little activity for this map anyway. We get to kill things next map guys!
I vote for my segment 2 as amends for all the time I spent on citadel_00 and still not get the segment after all I mean, the time difference between Inex’s and mine is insanely small! It just feels frustrating to be beaten by luck as you can imagine. What I mean is that we all agreed that the game sometimes is really random and that an extremely well done run might turn out way slower than a mediocre one. I don’t mean to offend Inex or anything. Of course he did well on his run.In the end the decision is up to the rest of the team of course, but still it’s pretty frustrating when you try one stupid map for several days, hell even weeks, and then get beaten by someone who just picked up playing the map again. Again, Inex, no offence. It just feels frustrating since you didn’t execute any obvious aspects in the run better than I did and still you finished earlier.I’m okay to move on to the next map, too, by the way. We’ve spent enough time with it and in my eyes everyone had more than enough time to give it a shot. I also think we should think about a deadline when to move on to the next map if we don’t want the run to take 2 years to be completed. Thoughts on that?On a totally different note. Me and typical talked about the _2.dem files the other day and we kinda agreed that they seem rather pointless to record respectively stop & save. So do we really have to include them in our archives should we ever hand the run in for verification on SDA or is it just an annoying factor for us that won’t be taken into account in the end anyway?
Perfectly okay by me man. I did try pretty hard to get the segment as short as I could, and I thought I had a 2:40 run at least from that, but of course it gave me 2:41, and only just that anyway, very close to 2:42.I’m fine with letting you have this map altogether. Typical, your jump is really great, but it seems that dodging the trigger just slowed us down in the end. I take the blame for that as I officially put it in the route plan, but I assumed that it was faster to not have to dodge the combine.I agree with moving on to the next map. The lack of activity from anyone is depressing, and I think that with this activity we probably won’t improve the time anyway. So hopefully people will get some more running done, because I also vote to go onto citadel_02, meaning we get to kill things, which I know you guys want, though I’d be perfectly happy not to have enemies and just keep running :PWith the _2 files, I don’t know if they’re very useful, but I really think that we should include them anyway. RandomEngy told me they were gonna be used for the video, so I suppose it’s best to trust him and include them. When we send the run to SDA, we can send separate RAR files that don’t include the _2 demos, as they wouldn’t add on to the run time anyway.
_2 files are very important for making video, because there is a gap between demos (about 0.5-1.0 sec), and these demos fills them.
Okay, thanks a lot doxliy. Good to know you’re looking in on us occasionally. Can you speedrun HL2 at all? You’re free to join us if you like
Okay guys, I, Typical, Foust and o40 have all agreed it’s time to move on. So now this map is officially finished. The final time is 2:41, both segment being by Foust. Congrats Foust, this time is a saving of 15 seconds over the phase 1 time, which is great! And onto citadel_02 we go.
Jesus, I’m such a jackass. I just realised that the _2.dem in my archive wasn’t the one that belonged to the 2:34 run at all. So there’s no way to make a proper transition from citadel_01 p2 to citadel_02 in the video. Guess we’ll have to use inex’s segment after all since I haven’t been able to redo my time since I realised my fuck-up. Sorry
Lame. I’m sorry man, I was fine with using yours, but I suppose that without the _2 file we can’t use it. You still have the first segment, which is the actual impressive part of that map :P.I just came here to add a link to the save file to the citadel_02 topic, so I guess I’ll just link my archive.Sorry again man
