Half-Life segmented in 20 minutes 41 seconds

oh i didn’t have that, thanks

Now when some time have passed.
What was the best moments of this run?
What surprised you the most?
Did you find anything disappointing?

I loved the blast pit chapter a lot. and the lambda core chapter
Nothing was disappointing
What surprised me was you going through a wall in surface tension
Maybe if there are more glitches someone could do a 15 minute speedrun in like 10 years

My favorite part is between 00:00 and 21:05.
The most surprising thing - finishing game with 1 hp. Mindblow

The thing that struck me the most is the smoothness of Office Complex and On a Rail.

I still feel like I haven’t watched the run enough.

Watched it over 15 times and I still feel this way too…

I think my favourite moment had to be the whole beginning of the lambda core chapter when the ‘Hard Technology Rock’ track kicks in and a load of gaussboosts and damageboosts are being used; that part was perfect for me.

The part that surprised me the most was when you used the invisible button to avoid damage in the elevator shaft, when you mentioned that you’d found a new way to do it I got pretty excited, so to see the final method was pretty cool.

Can’t say I found anything disappointing to be honest, it was even better than I expected it to be, and my expectations were pretty damn high.

The grenade in lamba core at around 17:50 was great. Jumping on the Itchyosaur was great. Jumping on the soldier near the start of Questionable Ethics was great.

The most disappointing part was that it was only 20:41 long. I wish there was more.

I would also not have minded having the speedometer on the screen to see how fast you were going in places, but meh.

Duckjumping up the stairs, saving speed. Manipulating the game to your advantage, such as triggerdelays, with objectboost and without. Speaking of objectboost, What really made my jaw drop is the boost in office complex. Both before level change and one with table. Using saves to skip weapon unholster animation. And much more. Also, everything in the run.
E: Conveyor-piston boost. Also very impressing precise .357 shot in QE to free the alien grunt.

*Dickhead mode *It took a bit too long. But it was worth it.

Bloodvez, that profile picture is REALLY weird.

Anywho, fav bit was Blast Pit and On A Rail without a doubt. obbo off the light was amazing, although I already knew that you could ramp off of it by the time the vid came out.

The most dissapointing thing is that, there isn’t a OP4 run and BS run using the new glitches. Speaking of that, any plans?

Most Suprising Bit - The ENTRIETY of Questionable Ethics. lowering the FPS to get through doors while maintaining speed, almost 360-degree-magnum-super-headshot, obbo through the roof to get the Gauss faster. You all have very creative minds.

Thanks.

I ain’t sayin’ nothin’. >_>

Yay!

Is pruno working on this too? I remember his saying he’s routing OP4. I hope you guys are working on the same run.

Yep, it was pruno’s idea I believe.

Still feel as though I haven’t grasped the general route for this run so it’s hard to tell, but my favourite part is http://youtu.be/VtI5HM7GVGY?t=6m58s , mostly because it looks so incredibly bad ass. The most suprising thing have to be the persistency throughout the whole run, must’ve been hard to keep that up for each single segment. Nothing disappointing, other than the lack of an Opposing Force style commentary perhaps.

Also a cool thing is that the hl21 team has so good mouse movements it almost looks like they are doing a perfectstrafe sometimes
And will the demo files be released?

Basically the only thing I’m disappointed in is those 1-tick-long segments. I’m having a really hard time explaining them to people, even those familiar with speedruns; it looks inconsistent to them that someone would just plain relegate a whole set of actions to a script completely, but not, say, script/TAS the entire run in this manner. And I don’t really know what to say because hell, it looks like pure TASing approach even to me, a person with decade-long history of participating in both kinds of speedruns and their respective communities. One cannot possibly load game, shoot, and save within the span of one tick manually, it makes the action invisible by any conventional means, and all of this casts a shadow of doubt on the rest of the run. I try to just not think about those things so much and just think of the whole as an entertaining product rather than trying to legitimize it in some way; thankfully, there are only four or five (I believe) instances in the run when those segments are apparent. But when they are, they’re still bothersome. :\

Other than that, it’s the kind of run for me, that when somebody says or posts something to the extent of, “hey, remember that time when he did xxx”, I open the video at that moment and end up watching the rest of it. Every single time. And I’m amazed every single time as well. I actually wish it was twice longer, not 30% shorter than the previous!

Also, while I agree with Spider-Waffle on the fact that the IHD would likely detract from entertainment in his own run (as it showcased extreme planning at the time), in this one it definitely works in the run’s favor due to higher initial pace and the apparent effort to go all-out to minimize every possible delay that could happen due to to lack of speed/height/health. IHD complements that goal completely and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb at any point.

I’d just love to see more about the development of the run - all the little odds and ends in that HL21 folder.
